Sharing Time

"Sharing Time" is an important part of the curriculum that reinforces the home/school connection and links it directly to the curriculum. This activity takes place during circle time on some Thursdays for the morning and the afternoon class, and each child gets a turn to share an item with the class. They sit in the "teacher's chair" and through a series of guided questions talk about what they brought to their peers. In the first couple of months of school, they are led through the questioning by the teacher. When they are ready, the questions are asked by their peers!! The give and take of questioning and answering is a very important skill, and sharing time helps introduce this concept in familar, predictable way. Questions your children ask each other about the sharing items include "what is it," "what does it do," "where did you get it," "where do you keep it," and "what color is it." This is something you can practice with your child at home when they are selecting an item to bring. 

 A sharing schedule will be sent home. These items are meant to serve as direct links to the curriculum and literacy theme of the week. This section of the website will also list the current sharing item each week. Please use this guide when assisting your child with selecting an item from home.

Sharing time is an excellent way to foster social skills, turn taking, and language pragmatics. Your children truly become the "teacher" during their turn and become very capable of facilitating their turn... and letting me be an observer, as well!
